Importance of Having Gun Safe

Going Keyless

If you like the advances in technology, we are certain that you are already familiar with keyless ignitions. They offer a level of convenience that most people associate with luxury. However, not everyone is in favor of this type of key. It is a frightening thought to consider a car starting with a physical key being placed in the ignition. So if you don’t already know this, a keyless ignition enables a motorist to start the engine without inserting a key in the ignition. The remote transmitter has to be close to the car before it will recognize the key. You simply hit the start button and the car automatically turns on, as long as the transmitter is nearby. Many motorist find this especially helpful if they always have to dig for their keys or if they don’t know exactly where there key is located. Some people simply appreciate the modern convenience this type of key offers to them. Whatever the case may be, it doesn’t seem that this new technology is going anywhere soon.

One of the advantages of having a keyless ignition is that the car thief is unable to take your car. The car will only start when the computer picks up a specific signal, which only your key fob holds. Without this fob it is virtually impossible for them to start the car. It would take a highly intelligent car thief to go into the dashboard of your car and put the right wires together to start the car. Another advantage to the keyless ignition is that the ignition circuit may be completely disabled if theft is detected. As impressive as this is to some people, there are still some people who are not all interested in this type of car.

Superior Level of Convenience

When you are in a hurry and don’t want to waste time finding your key, this is the type of key for you. It prevents you from having to take time to find the car key by starting up right away. Simply by staying somewhere in the vicinity of your car will allow the signal to reach the computer and automatically start your car. If you work late into the evening and you couldn’t be bothered, it is a good idea to at least look into the possibility of buying a car that offers this feature. Even if you have an older car that doesn’t have a keyless ignition, you can still purchase a keyless key. With just one push of a button, you can be off and running in no time.

Drawbacks to Having Keyless Ignitions

There is no doubt about it that the biggest advantage to a keyless entry is the level of convenience it affords those who use it. It wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t also mention the drawback of having this type of new technology at your finger tip. At Riverside Locksmith in Riverside, CA, we have been told that many customers are put off by the expensive price of this feature. The cost of this is usually hidden into the cost of the price. While you may not see it because it isn’t clearly indicated on the slip, trust us when we tell you that it is actually there. While we certainly understand that to some people this added expense is not worth it, there are those who see the value in having a keyless ignition. When you stop to think of exactly what it requires to design this type of technology, then it becomes clear why they have to charge customers more. Developing this system isn’t cheap. We pay for convenience and it doesn’t matter to some people how much they have to pay for this level of convenience. The other drawback is the expense of replacing the keyless fob. This is an electronic fob that needs to be near you in order for the keyless ignition to start. If you happen to lose this key, you’ll be out of $100 or more to replace it. This isn’t a key that is made as quickly as a traditional key. This type of key requires the right type of equipment to program it. Each one is programmed for your specific vehicle and cannot be easily duplicated.

Bottom Line

So the bottom line is that it is purely based on preference as to whether or not you opt to buy a car with a keyless ignition or not. The pros may outweigh the cons for you and you might feel as though it is totally worth the added expense to receive the convenience it offers. Whereas, on the other hand, you may not feel as though it is worth the added expense because you really prefer to have a physical key to place in the ignition. With anything that is considered a major purchase, we would strongly suggest that you simply do your homework before making your purchase. Most dealerships will try to steer you toward this options because they make a commission off of it. However, if you consult with a locksmith, they will have a more objective point of view and will be open and honest about what you can expect when you have a keyless ignition. Locksmiths don’t really have anything to lose by telling you upfront what you can expect when you have a keyless ignition. This is why they are a good resource when you are considering this type of keyless option. You’ll be glad you did the research before hand because if you choose to get this type of key, at least you there will not be any surprises along the way. You’ll know full-well just what you can expect when you purchase this type of advanced technology. The last thing you would want to do is determine later that this wasn’t the best decision for you to have made. Then you’ll be stuck with it and we would hate to see anyone stuck with something they don’t want.

Garage door locks; additional security!

Many people have not heard of garage door locks, but they are becoming more and more popular every day; not only here in Riverside, CA but anywhere garages are used, both at home and for business. Our Riverside Locksmith experts know how using garage door locks can greatly increase the security of your property and especially the contents of your garage whether it’s guarded by a single tilt up or a huge industrial garage door.

Why lock the garage door?

It’s an honest question; your garage door leads into your garage. You naturally want to secure the contents of this large room so locking your garage door just makes sense. Take the average home garage for example. The typical residential garage contains at least one vehicle (car, truck, SUV, van, etc.) as well as bicycles, motorcycle, golf cart, garden tools, water heater, work bench, water softener system, storage containers, lawn furniture, and lots more. All of these items cost money and if stolen, would need replacement at some point. While every garage is different, you can see where most home garages contain a wealth of belongings that are important both in monetary worth and personal value.

Gateways into the home

You already know that your garage door opens (usually) into your home or business. Did you also know that your garage can be a gateway into “burglar heaven?” Every year many Riverside, CA homes are burglarized from inside the garage. That’s right; the crooks get inside the garage and worked in peace and seclusion to pick the lock on the door leading into the home, or simply walk through the unlocked door directly into the house where they can steal at will! Do you see the advantage of breaking into the garage? From the street, no one notices anything! Sometimes, the burglar’s vehicle is even driven into the garage and loaded with items from the house and then driven out while the whole thing looks normal to anyone not familiar with the real occupants.

What you can do!

First of all, don’t panic. It’s always difficult to think clearly when under stress or extreme uncertainty. Next, try and clean up the area just outside your garage door. By saying this, we mean trimming tree branches, hedges, bushes or other large plants that people can hide behind. Keep in mind that burglars often observe the victim(s) before they actually steal. Large, overgrown shrubbery is ideal to hide behind and watch your intended victims go about their business. Arrival and departure times can be noted, and lights on at night, as well as open curtains can reveal other information like floorplan layouts, any possible weapons and number of persons in the household; all good things to know about before actually breaking in. You can never go wrong making your home or business property look neater and more attractive, and you might just discourage a home burglar or common thief from even attempting to rob you.

Another helpful tip is to add a light over the garage door. A well-lit area is a real deterrent to criminal activity as any would-be thief would be much easier to notice and observe. Even more recommended is a motion detector light that turns on anytime there is significant movement within its range.

Garage door locks

By now you are probably wondering “what about garage door locks – aren’t they what this post is about?” Following the above advice is recommended to increase the overall security and appearance of your property. Adding garage door locks is the finishing touch to achieving a well secured and hard to rob property for you and your loved ones to live and work in. Who knows; you may not even need the locks if your home or business is clean, well-lit and looking secure!

Garage door slide lock

Slide locks are the most common garage door locks. These are sometimes called latch locks and are simple but very effective. They use a latch that slides from the garage door into a pre-cut hole located in the garage door track. When the lock is in place, it prevents the garage door from lifting up as the latch is locked into place and can’t roll up via the vertical track. These locks are inexpensive and easy to install on your own. They do have one drawback however; they can burn your opener motor out if you forget that the lock is in place and keep trying to run your opener. Sometimes, a family member can lock the garage door and forget to tell roommates or other residents who then attempt to open the garage door using their remotes. Motor burn out is the result and sometimes even damage to the garage door itsel.

T handle lock

Another popular garage door lock is the T Handle keyed lock. You’ve seen them hundreds of times; they have a handle in the shape of a T and are installed on the outside of a garage door. There are two bolts and a cable system on the inside that work to lock the garage door when in use. The bolts are secured to the vertical track and only unlocked when the T Handle is turned. You can only turn the handle with a key so they are well secured from passersby. Again; don’t use your garage door opener when this lock is engaged as damage to the door can occur.

J Arm lock

Is your garage door automatic? If so, it already has a lock of sorts on it. The operator arm; located on the garage door trolley, locks into place when the door is closed. This is what prevents it from opening when lifted manually. This is what you unlock when you pull the red handle on the cord and disconnect the opener.

Which to get?

That’s up to you, but all three are effective and easy to use and install. You can do it yourself or use the services of a professional Riverside, CA locksmith shop if you like. When used correctly garage door locks can add peace of mind and better security to your building.

THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A SAFE AT HOME

Better Safe than Sorry!

We know banks, businesses, and the wealthy have safes. But why should regular folks like us own a safe? If you reside in a quiet neighborhood, you may decide a safe isn’t needed. If you live in a more unpredictable part of town, you may be wondering what kind of safe might be best for you.

You may still be asking: What would I put in my safe, anyway?

We all have at least a few treasured objects. You likely have crucial documents, collectibles, and irreplaceable heirlooms. Why risk losing them, either because you misplace them or because they are stolen?

The fact is, there are a good number of reasons a home safe is an excellent idea ~ some of which you may not have thought of before.

Important Points to Consider

You’ll always know where your things are. If you often lose your stuff, you can keep all your important items in a safe, so you’ll never mislay them again.

Preventing theft. A safe prevents a burglar from stealing your valuables. Keeping your most prized possessions in a safe will give you peace of mind. Do you often throw parties at home? What about hosting house guests? When groups of people stay at your place, you can’t always keep an eye on every person. Therefore, it’s a comfort to know that your cherished items will stay untouched inside your home safe.

Guarding against fire. In case of fire, a premium-quality safe will safeguard whatever you have inside from destruction by fire. What would happen if you were to lose the following critical items to fire?

  • birth certificates
  • passports
  • copies of your driver’s licenses & other IDs
  • your last will & testament
  • insurance papers for filing a possible claim
  • powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, & living wills
  • list of family doctors with contact information
  • safe deposit box keys & other important keys you rarely use
  • mortgage records
  • outstanding loans and other debt records
  • documents regarding properties you own
  • tax records
  • pharmacy and prescription medication information
  • investment documents
  • titles to all your vehicles
  • rare coins & stamps
  • retirement plans
  • emergency cash
  • funeral arrangements
  • bank account information

Protecting against floods. If a flood comes, or any sort of water-related disaster, if you have the right safe, whatever’s protected inside will stay intact.

A safe is superior to a safety deposit box. A safety deposit box at your bank may seem better than a safe at home; yet actually, a home safe does give you numerous advantages:

  • You’ll have access 24/7, rather than just during office hours.
  • Strange but true: At a bank, a safe deposit box’s contents are hardly ever insured. But your home safe’s items are indeed usually covered by your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy.
  • Any cash kept in your safety deposit box is not FDIC-insured.
  • You’ll make a one-time investment, rather than have to pay a fee every month.
  • Your home is private, rather than public; anytime you want, you can take items out, and put them back in.
  • Upon the death of a loved one, if you’re the beneficiary, you may think you’ll be able to open that person’s safe deposit box. The problem is, however, that your bank will routinely seal your safety deposit box as soon as it receives the death certificate, which means you won’t be allowed to open it until the estate representatives supply the court papers.

Preserving your family photographs. You can keep digital copies of all your beloved family photos inside your home safe, and also store any older family photos. Otherwise, such photographic memories are irreplaceable.

Keeping backup data. Every computer owner knows that you have to keep backups of everything on your computer. When you know you have the data in your safe, should you ever experience computer glitches, your files will be completely retrievable. If your computer ever sustains a hard-drive crash, with your backup in your safe, you can restore everything.

Keeping your family out of harm’s way. If you own weapons, it’s imperative that you keep them from falling into the wrong hands. Prevent children or intruders from gaining access to your guns, axes, knives, explosives or any other harmful items. Avoid danger and tragedy!

Ask the Right Questions

Conduct thorough research to find the ideal safe for your home. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Should your safe be visible or well hidden?
  • How big should your safe be?
  • Look at the industry standards for optimal fire-resistance and water-resistance levels.
  • Which individuals will you trust who will always know how to open your safe?
  • Where is the most secure location in your home to place your safe?
  • Industry guidelines indicate a specific security rating for every safe manufacturer. Which level of security is right for your circumstances? Do you want something as standard as a combination lock, as sophisticated as an eye scan, or features in between? Do you desire to have a simple metal box? Or should it be substantially anchored?
  • What is your backup plan, if someone misplaces the information necessary for opening your safe?
  • What company will you contact if you encounter any technical problems?
  • Are there additional factors to consider for the proper protection of your specific items ~ light, humidity, temperature, and so on?

No doubt, a home safe offers you countless benefits. Home safes are available in numerous sizes, types, styles, and brands. Should you have any concerns about which safe technician is best for you to purchase, and you live any place in Riverside, California, you may want to bring all your questions to a mobile safe technician on staff at Riverside Locksmith. At such a reputable company, before deciding which home safe will be right for you, you can request a free consultation anytime at your convenience.

Riverside Locksmith: What to Do When You Experience Ignition Cylinder Problems

Ignition cylinder issues can come in many variations. In some cases, you may suddenly find yourself stranded in a car that won’t start, in others the damage may be more gradual and inconsistent. Either way, a locksmith may be the best resort for your troubles.

Before we get to that, though, let’s focus our attention on the ignitions themselves – how these work, and the issues you may encounter along the way.

Your car’s ignition switch does more than enabling you to turn the vehicle on and off. It’s also a crucial security mechanism designed to prevent car theft. In the old days, thieves could easily pry their way into cars by dismantling the cylinder and hotwiring the vehicle. Modern cars have more sophisticated systems, which won’t start unless the ignition receives the right code from the key fob and the inserted key lines up with the cylinder’s pins. This is why worn out keys and/or internal components can lead to some of the signs and symptoms we will focus on right now.

Think you have an issue? Here are some symptoms to look out for:

1) Powering on the vehicle becomes more difficult

Usually the result of wear and tear, this is one of the most common signs of a malfunctioning ignition switch. Worn out components mean that the key and ignition only respond to certain positions, gradually worsening until the components are no longer responsive. Stay vigilant, and if symptoms persist we recommend you get in touch with a qualified professional before any of the worst-case scenarios come to play. An automotive locksmith will be able to advise you whether or not you need to replace (or even reprogram) your keys or your ignition cylinder.

2) Everything starts okay, but then the engine fails while driving

A very common symptom of a worn out ignition switch. Over time, the electrical contacts inside your ignition may become corroded, leading to losses in voltage which will cause your car to unexpectedly come to a halt. In some cases, it may even cause the engine to misfire or stumble.

  • One thing to note: heavy keyrings may put more stress on your ignition that you bargained for, ultimately speeding up the wear and tear of its inner components. If possible, avoid carrying your car keys alongside extra fobs, pendants, or bulky keyrings.

3) The car will not start at all

This can be the sign of different problems, like a flat battery or a faulty sensor, but is quite common with ignition troubles too. In this case, it’s highly recommended to ask a locksmith to inspect the damage for you before making a full diagnosis. When the problem is the cylinder, though, you’ll likely need a replacement as this often emerges as the result of internal damage.

  • If your ignition cylinder turns, the engine cranks but your car won’t start, the likely culprit will be a malfunctioning anti-theft device. Check if the anti-theft lights are flashing – if yes, your key is not being recognized by the vehicle and you may need to get it reprogrammed. Otherwise, the fault may not necessarily be in the ignition cylinder (it could as easily be a fuel issue as a glitch in the control model of your cylinder switch).

4) Difficulties inserting and removing the key

This is where key extractions tend to come into play. Worn cylinders can bind the key in an awkward position, making it difficult to remove it once inserted. Interference in the powering of your vehicle will ensue, eventually leading to the key no longer being able to fit the cylinder at all. Once that happens, your car will no longer be able to be powered on with the key in your possession.

  • Key stuck after turning off the engine? Try steering the wheel back into lock position. If that doesn’t help, you’ll need to call a locksmith.

How an auto locksmith will help

Because of the way ignition cylinders are designed, it is safer and easier to get a repair or replacement from a credible professional.

Automotive locksmith services are often created with the intention of making repairs and replacements convenient and accessible. Without a locksmith, you’d need to get your car towed away into an expensive garage or you may even need to request specialist parts from a local car dealer. A credible auto lock and key services provider will be able to work on all kinds of vehicles and will have equipment and tools on site so they can easily deal with some of the most common troubles car owners will be faced with.

To find a good professional to hire, make sure to ask around. Referrals and word of mouth are still the best way of identifying a good business. Also check every locksmith business online, make sure they are local, and request a consultation and full price quote from them (most businesses don’t charge for these types of queries). Also, make sure to ask if they actually work with automotive matters as some locksmiths may only provide a small portion of services – like residential help or commercial assistance.

If you happen to live in Riverside, CA, our licensed and insured professionals are able to sort your ignition cylinder troubles out for you. Automotive lock and key matters are among the various specialist areas that Riverside Locksmith focuses on. In urgent cases, we can dispatch one of our locally-based professionals in your general direction 24/7. Just remember to tell us your issues so we can come with the right tools on-hand to apply the best fixes. In most cases, all you’ll need is a key extraction, but if your ignition cylinder is damaged beyond repair we’ll be able to replace it quickly. Get in touch to consult with us, find out about our automotive solutions, and feel free to request a price quote too.

Now you know what to look out for, you’ll be able to get the help that you need, as soon as you need it.

Types of Automotive Keys

Your automotive key or car key enables you to open and start your car. In some cases, you don’t even need the actual key to start your car now-a-days. Not every car has the same type of keys. Today there are transponder keys (very popular), VATS, and smart keys or key fobs. Although there are a variety of keys that are made today, they all require only one of two cutting techniques to work. Unfortunately, you are not always in control of the type of key that is required to operate your automobile. However, if you have a preferred type of key that you like to use, there are certain make and models of cars that you shouldn’t even consider You should know that despite your best efforts to continue using a specific type of car key, you may be out of luck because most cars designed today require a key that is technologically advanced. You may have to adapt with the changing industry needs. Besides, the advanced technology used to make your car keys today offer more security than other types of keys.

We’ll start by telling you about the most common type of automotive keys, the mechanical cut keys. These are cut using a traditional cutting machine. You may be familiar with the way locksmiths make standard keys for your office or home. This is the same way traditional keys are made. This was the only way that a key could be made until the 20th century. After which time the laser cutting technique then started to become just as popular. This is because of the increased level of security offered with a laser cut key. You’ll find that most newer model cars require the laser cut keys.

Laser cut keys are also known as sidewinder keys or internal cut keys. This type of key cutting is the most comprehensive because of the many security advantages that they offer. The lock cylinder is more difficult to pick when compared to how easy it is to pick a traditional cut key. They are also less likely to be duplicated because of the special software used and the high-tech machine used to cut the keys. Note that if you are purchasing a newer model car, your car will likely use a laser cut key.

Now that you know the type of cuts that keys are made with, here are the common types of car keys:

  1. Smart Keys

These keys are made with computerized microchips and a sensor that enables users to start the car without a key in the ignition. The driver just needs to have the key on them in order to start the car. There are some advantages to having this type of key and disadvantages. Discuss this with a certified Riverside locksmith, such as one you would find at Riverside Locksmith.

  1. Transponder Keys

The microchip in a transponder key is located in the handle. This is done for security purposes and to prevent auto theft. This type of key can be laser cut or mechanical cut. This depends on the make and model of the car that you have. Most locksmith services are able to effectively program and reprogram your transponder key from wherever you are. They come to your location with the necessary equipment to handle the job.

  1. VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) Keys

This type of key is a mechanical cut key. It has a black resister on the blade, not a microchip like some might think. A VATS key isn’t designed with computer technology.

Whenever you need a new key made, you might want to consider allowing a locksmith to make it for you rather than a auto dealership for various reasons. One of the many reasons people elect to have a locksmith make their key is because it is less expensive. When you lose your key and do not have a duplicate, you can have an automotive locksmith come to wherever you are, rather than having a tow truck take you to a dealership for a new key. This saves you from having to pay tow fees. The process of cutting your key for you is also less expensive than what you would pay at a car dealership. Another good reason to contact a locksmith rather than a dealership is because it will take less time to get your new key. When you are at a dealership, they often make you stand in a queue to wait alongside everyone else who is seeking services, even if it is something as simple as having a new key made. Most locksmith companies offer mobile services, which means they will come to where you are to cut your key for you. This saves you time and money. These days, time is such a commodity that we can’t afford to waste it waiting around all day for something as simple as a key.

Make sure that when you begin searching for a locksmith to make your car keys, you find one that is reputable and trustworthy. If you have a locksmith that you have used in the past and they have managed to maintain their fine reputation, why go anywhere else. Finding a trustworthy locksmith means that you don’t have to worry about them making duplicate keys for themselves and use for themselves or sell to some theft ring. We know this is not something that may happen often, but it is certainly worth considering.  Since a certified locksmith makes keys all the time, it stands to reason that when they cut your key it will be done right the first time. Sometimes, the keys you have made at a dealership are made so fast that they don’t always do a good job cutting the key and you begin having problems shortly thereafter. Take the time to do your research in finding the right locksmith to ensure you get what you are paying for. Worse than wasting time is wasting our money on something that is ineffective.

When To Replace Locks

When To Replace Locks

We often hear the phrase “change the locks” but do you know what that really means? Are you actually changing or replacing the entire lock or just a part of it and does any of that matter? Here at Riverside Locksmith we are often asked for lock change, rekey or lock replacement help. Many don’t know the difference but you soon will!

Most Riverside, CA lock and key shops offer similar services so even if you use another firm to help with your lock situation you’ll be able to speak the “lingo” and get the service you really want or need.

So What Is A Lock Change?

Let’s take the mystery out of all this. A lock replacement is just that. The lock is fully replaced. You take the old one off and install a brand new one.

A rekey is different but often accomplishes the same goal. You keep the lock in place and only change the inside tumblers so that you are forced to use a different key. See how that works?

Which Do You Need Or Want?

Are you more confused than ever? Don’t worry – it’s simple really. You can also call Riverside Locksmith at any time and get clarification. Our family owned lock and key shop offers free, no obligation details, free price quotes and even free consultations. Take advantage of all that and give us a call!

Replacing Home Locks

There are many good reasons to replace your locks at home. They may have been damaged during a burglary attempt. Your door or window locks may have been vandalized or even destroyed. Many times, our Riverside, CA customers have called us to add new residential locks after they’ve come home to broken ones. Think about it. It’s after hours and you’ve just arrived home. The locks are damaged or missing. You need new locks installed immediately or else how can you retire for the night or go to work in the morning? You CAN’T leave your home unlocked and unprotected!

Another great reason to replace your home locks is to simply upgrade. It’s a little known fact that most home builders install the minimum grade locks on their new home’s front doors. The laws and building codes require a lock but it doesn’t have to be a great one; just an adequate one. Are you shocked? Don’t be. By doing this, they fulfil their code requirements and make allowance for you to upgrade to stronger, better locks at a higher price, of course.

Many times, our Riverside Locksmith customers simply want higher quality hardware installed at their homes. Our shop offers some great deals on high security locks. We offer several models for our customers to choose from. They are not only affordable, they are so well built that they cannot be pried, picked, shot or even blasted open! Lock bumping is another form of easy home entry (of the illegal kind!). 95% of most home locks today can be bumped open in less than 15 seconds! The technique is simple and leaves no trace of forced entry! Try filing a claim for stolen goods or police report when it looks like an inside job! The best way to combat lock bumping is to simply replace your original door locks with new high security or bump proof locks from a licensed, bonded and insured Riverside, CA locksmith.

Replacing Auto Locks

Riverside Locksmith usually gets auto lock replacement requests when car locks have worn out or become useless from age or crime. Some customers want to change over to a keyless entry system while others simply want new locks installed to take the place of the damaged ones. Car theft is on the rise and many times the door, trunk or ignition switch has been rendered almost useless by attempts to pick open, pry off or smash the locking apparatus in order to either gain entry or to steal the vehicle altogether. Many times we’ll get requests to add additional locks, like one for the glove compartment or to replace one on a used vehicle or on one bought at car auction.

Replacing Commercial Locks

There are hundreds of different types of businesses. They can range from dry cleaners to luxury hotels. One thing they all have in common is their locks. Commercial locks are meant to protect the business property, its customers, staff, and inventory. Many times local Riverside, CA firms change hands. New owners will want new keys and often opt for simple rekey job. Others will want an entirely new set of locks at least for the front or back doors. Upgrades are also a big part of commercial locksmith service. Many burglars and armed robbers see local businesses as easy “marks” for their criminal activity. You always hear of the late night convenience store robbery or something criminal happening at a liquor store or bar. Upgrading to better quality locks and adding CCTV cameras can go a long way towards keeping business crime down, not just here in California, but everywhere.

Which Is Best?

It comes down to your particular needs. Do you just want spare keys for safekeeping or for a family member or friend? Call a local locksmith and get some made. Do you want new keys so that the old ones no longer work? Get some rekey work done and save money over full lock replacement. Would you like to upgrade or replace some damaged locks that are no longer doing their job? Ask for lock replacement and get the added security and peace of mind that comes with that decision. If you have questions or still can’t decide which route to go, call on Riverside Locksmith and we’ll be happy to discuss any of this with you! Our service is mobile, highly affordable and our full time technicians are licensed, bonded and insured for your total protection and safety. We offer same day service and ultra-fast response times during emergencies. Your locks are meant to do a job. Help them along by getting the best ones for your money!

HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH TRANSPONDER KEYS

How does a transponder key work?

Transponder keys are standard nowadays. They make it much more difficult for a thief to steal your vehicle. Even though it’s more expensive, it’s worth the peace of mind it affords you.

Anyone who has transponder keys ~ also called transponder “chip” keys ~ knows how much easier they are to use than regular keys. These specialized keys are ignition keys for your vehicle that make getting in and out of your car a breeze, because you can unlock your car doors without actually placing the key in the lock; you can get your trunk open remotely; you can activate and deactivate your car alarm; and, with some, you can even start up your car remotely.

The way it works is that the chip inside the key emits a particular signal to your automobile’s computer, a singular frequency that’s aligned to your car only. When the signal’s received, the mechanical part of the key releases your steering lock so you can activate the ignition and drive.

However, there are problems that can arise. Here’s how to get out of a jam when it comes to typical challenges with transponder keys.

Locksmith Hears Baby Boy’s Barely Audible Screams at Night. What He Saves Him from is Terrifying

When a Georgia locksmith pulled up to a routine call on Wednesday night, he probably didn’t anticipate that it would include an experience in which he would be called a hero.

The locksmith, Volley Collins, came to the aid of a 18-year-old woman who locked her keys in her car. However, it turned out, she wasn’t a victim, but a perpetrator of a twisted crime.

After Collins unlocked the car, he could hear the barely audible cries of a 16-month-old boy. What he saw was heartbreaking: the child was wrapped up in packing tape.

According to Alive 11:
“I unlocked the car, reached in to get the keys out, and I heard a baby crying in the back seat,” Collins said Thursday. “I took my flashlight, looked back there, sure enough, there’s a baby in the back seat."
But the terrified toddler wasn’t just in the backseat, he was on the floorboard of the backseat.

Even more disturbing is the fact that the car was parked by a lake, and investigators have considered the horrible scenario of the vehicle being driven into the body of water.

The mother who committed the crime, Grace An, is sitting in a jail cell and facing charges of first degree child cruelty, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.

As for Collins, he said of the troubling but harrowing experience:
“All you can think is, you know, God had a hand in it to put us there at the same time.”
Fortunately, the child is in good condition. And if wasn’t for the heroic actions of Collins, things could have been so much worse.
